The Wood Brothers Fairfax Concert reviews
Love it!
The concert was really fun, on my feet dancing the whole time! I still think they redeemed themselves - I was like their 'greatest hits', plus 4 new songs. I was kind of disappointed with their last tour - they didn't play for very long. I wish they would have played a few more new songs - after seeing them in concert 5 times, it seems like they always go back to Songs About Jane, and I'm ready to hear their newer stuff. I saw them in Vegas, and remember not liking how they played a lot of old songs (not what I wanted to hear). I was getting worried the fame had gone to their heads and they were starting to be a little stuffy. What people love about them is that they are about the music, emotion, and talent in a live performance. I personally would appreciate a little more improv on the guitar - kinda like a John Mayer concert but with more of a rock energy. Adam Levine's pants have gotten skinnier and skinnier over the years... in fact, I'm 90% sure he was wearing JEGGINGS this night! Not my personal favorite, but he still looked like a rockstar.
The best surprise of the night was certainly the opening acts - Bruno Mars and One Republic. It was fun to feel like you were part of that. Every band says their thanks and appreciation to the crowd, but not all of them have to stop singing because they're a little choked up. Bruno Mars was FANTASTIC! His group (particularly his 'back-up' singer?) was so fun to watch. They had everyone on their feet playing fun spins on covers. I'll definitely be downloading his whole album! It was particularly great to watch him because his stardom is new, and you could see in his face a few times that he was really touched by the enthusiasm of the crowd. One Republic has some impressive instrumental talent- I counted - they each played at least 3 instruments! During One Republic, one of the guitarists came into the audience to watch, and was taking pictures and getting girls numbers. Also- props to the lead singer of One Republic... he full on took a lap through the audience - everyone loved it - it was so unexpected. I hated it b/c I couldn't get my camera out in time! I wasn't sure I knew their songs, but as soon as they started playing, I recognized most of them from the radio.
